We’re proud to support Update Your Will Week 2024

It aims to raise awareness of the risks of not having an up-to-date will and encourages people to update their will to ensure their wishes are fulfilled when they die.

Update Your Will Week is an annual campaign hosted by The Association of Lifetime Lawyers from 4 to 10 March.

Why is it important to have an up-to-date will?

Having an up-to-date, well-drafted will is crucial to ensure your wishes are carried out in the way you’d like when you die. Knowing you’ve chosen what you want to happen can also help ease distress for loved ones left behind and minimise potential disputes.

If you die without a will, any assets that belonged to you must be distributed according to the strict rules of intestacy – which may not be how you expect or would want your estate to be shared.

It’s never too early to make your will, as long as you’re over the age of 18 years old.

How often should I update my will?

We recommend that you review and update your will every five years or when a major change occurs that impacts you or your loved ones. For example, a marriage, divorce, a new birth, or a death in your family.

What should I do if I want to make changes to an existing will or create a new will?

Speaking to an experienced legal professional, such as Accredited Lifetime Lawyer James McMullan, is important as James can advise on your unique circumstances, offer specialist, tailored support and advice and ensure extra care, empathy, and attention are given at all times.

James is one of the most qualified lawyers in the country in this area of the law and is committed to finding the best outcome for you. He takes the time to listen to what you need and supports you to make your own legal decisions.

Don’t leave it too late – make sure your wishes are laid out for the future.

If you’re looking to update or make a will, get in touch with James McMullan or a member of our private client team today.
