RIAA Barker Gillette (UK) acts for Alexander Nix in Commercial Litigation

Press Release

Alexander Nix was the former CEO of Cambridge Analytica.

Judgment was handed down on 6 December 2024 in the high-profile case of Dynamo Recoveries Ltd & Emerdata Ltd v Alexander Nix, following a two-week trial in October 2024 before Dame Clare Moulder DBE.

The claims by Dynamo Recoveries and Emerdata, as well as a cross-claim by Mr Nix heard at the same trial, arose after the failure of the Cambridge Analytica business in 2018. Cambridge Analytica was a data and political advertising business that became prominent after its involvement in the successful 2016 Donald Trump presidential campaign. In 2018, it collapsed into insolvency following extensive and sustained critical media coverage. The claimants had sought compensation from Mr Nix relating to the business’s failure based on alleged breaches of fiduciary and statutory duties and misrepresentations.

During closing submissions, the claimants abandoned all their claims and defences based on alleged fraudulent misrepresentations. The court rejected all the remaining claims for damages against Mr Nix, valued at over £50 million. In addition, Mr Nix’s claims against Emerdata for $12 million of outstanding debts succeeded in full.

RIAA Barker Gillette (UK) ‘s legal team, led by partner Vinay Verma and assisted by Associate Daniel Downes, provided practical and strategic representation for Mr Nix since the dispute first arose in 2018. Jonathan Allcock of Maitland Chambers acted as sole counsel for Mr Nix.
