{"id":8550,"date":"2020-08-18T07:26:43","date_gmt":"2020-08-18T07:26:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.riaabarkergillette.com\/uk\/?p=8550"},"modified":"2026-03-13T09:51:05","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T09:51:05","slug":"lord-chancellor-announces-appointment-of-susan-humble-to-the-tpc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.riaabarkergillette.com\/uk\/lord-chancellor-announces-appointment-of-susan-humble-to-the-tpc\/","title":{"rendered":"Lord Chancellor announces appointment of Susan Humble to the TPC"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The TPC was established in 2008, under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukpga\/2007\/15\/contents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Act 2007<\/a>, and creates the rules governing practice and procedure in the First-Tier and Upper Tribunals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The TPC is responsible for nine sets of Tribunal Rules, covering eleven Chambers in the Unified Tribunals System. The appeals heard in those Chambers include gambling, immigration, local government standards, property, special educational needs, tax and transport matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Susan, who joined the firm as a partner in July, brings a wealth of experience to the team. Susan was previously Chief Executive Officer and Clerk to the <a href=\"https:\/\/solicitorstribunal.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal<\/a>, a role she held for nearly eight years, and Head of the Secretariat, National Anti-Doping Panel at Sport Resolutions (UK). She is currently Chair of the Board at the <a href=\"https:\/\/tax-board.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Taxation Disciplinary Board<\/a> and a lay panellist of the Professional Conduct Panel at the government agency, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/teaching-regulation-agency\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Teaching Regulation Agency<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Susan&#8217;s appointment results from a competitive recruitment process; emphasising her regulatory expertise, particularly in the specialist arena of high-level advisory work including rule drafting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RIAA Barker Gillette\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.riaabarkergillette.com\/uk\/our-expertise\/for-business\/regulatory-serious-fraud-business-crime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Regulatory Team<\/a> acts primarily for businesses and individuals across a wide range of industry sectors including healthcare, journalism, professional services, retail and sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instructions have involved engagement with the:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>British Horseracing Association<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Civil Aviation Authority<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chartered Trading Standards Institute<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Competition &amp; Markets Authority<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Department for Business Innovation &amp; Skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Department of Trade and Industry<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Football Association<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial Conduct Authority<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>General Dental Council<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>General Medical Council<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Institute of Chartered Accountants in England &amp; Wales<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information Commissioner&#8217;s Office<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Solicitors Regulation Authority<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Commenting on her appointment, Susan said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIt has been a busy few weeks following my arrival at RIAA Barker Gillette on 1 July and this appointment three days&#8217; later.
